Android XR Grows Up: Auto-Spatialization, Enterprise, and the SDK You Should Know

Android XR shipped in October 2025 with the Samsung Galaxy XR headset. Six months later, the April 2026 update is the first signal that Google is treating XR as a serious platform — not an experiment. That is not a substitute for natively designed XR experiences, but it eliminates the "my app looks flat in a headset" problem that has plagued every XR platform since the Oculus Rift.

The feature is marked experimental. Expect quality to vary — UI elements at screen edges may warp, and complex layouts with overlapping z-planes will confuse the depth estimator. But the trajectory is clear: in twelve months, auto-spatialization will be a toggle, not a lab feature.

Android Enterprise Comes to XR

Android XR occupies the middle ground: more capable and open than Meta's walled garden, cheaper and more developer-friendly than Apple's premium approach. The Enterprise support is a differentiator — neither Meta nor Apple offers the depth of Android's existing MDM infrastructure.
